What is PetVet247?
PetVet247 is an AI pet health companion for the moments when you're worried about your pet and the vet is closed. You describe what's wrong, answer a few clinical questions, and get clear guidance on what to do next — plus a place to store your pet's health records. It's free to download on iOS and Android.
Is PetVet247 a replacement for a vet?
No. PetVet247 helps you decide what to do next and what to tell your vet — it doesn't diagnose or treat your pet, and it isn't a substitute for professional veterinary care. If your pet is seriously unwell or it's an emergency, contact a vet straight away.
Which animals does PetVet247 support?
Dogs, cats, horses, and rabbits.
What does it cost?
Downloading the app and running text-based symptom checks is free. Uploading a photo or video as part of a check uses one credit — you start with three free credits, and you can buy more or unlock unlimited use with a one-off Lifetime option. Current prices are shown in the app.
Which devices is it on?
PetVet247 is available free on the Apple App Store (iPhone and iPad) and Google Play (Android phones and tablets).
How does a symptom check work?
Tap Start Triage and tell PetVet247 about your pet — the species, the symptoms, and when they started. It then asks the same kinds of questions a vet nurse would: about breathing, gum colour, eating, behaviour, movement, pain, and appearance. You get one clear result at the end, along with what the research says about your pet's symptoms and what to tell your vet when you call. See the full step-by-step guide.
What do the green, amber, and red results mean?
PetVet247 gives you one honest result using a simple traffic-light system: green means this looks okay, amber means it's worth getting checked, and red means see a vet urgently. The aim is no ambiguity and no guessing — just a clear sense of how concerned to be.
Can I upload a photo or video?
Yes. As well as your description, you can add a photo or a short video, and the AI assesses it visually — looking at things like gum colour, wounds, and how your pet is moving. Uploading media uses one credit per check.
How long does it take to get started?
About 30 seconds. Tap Add a Pet, give them a name, choose their species, and add a photo if you like. Your pet is then ready for their first symptom check or health passport.
What is the Health Passport?
The Health Passport is your pet's complete health record kept in one place. You upload the health record your vet can provide on request, and PetVet247's AI organises it into a clear timeline — vaccinations, medical history, medications, and weight — all in plain English.
What is the LifeMap PDF?
With one tap, PetVet247 generates a LifeMap: a full PDF of your pet's health story, laid out clearly and ready to share with any vet.
How do I add my pet's records?
Ask your vet for your pet's health record (they can provide it on request), then upload it in the app. The AI does the rest, turning it into your pet's health timeline.
Can my family or pet sitter use it too?
Yes. With household sharing you can invite a partner, family member, or pet sitter to access your pets. They get full access to symptom checks and health records, so everyone caring for your pet stays on the same page — but they can't transfer ownership.
Can I transfer a pet to a new owner?
Yes. If you rehome a dog or sell a horse, PetVet247 handles a full, secure transfer — including the pet's complete health history.
Are symptom checks free?
Text-only symptom checks are always free, with no limits and no credits needed. Credits are only used when you add a photo or video to a check.
How do credits work?
You start with three free credits when you join. Each photo or video upload uses one credit. You can top up with a credit pack whenever you need to, or choose the one-off Lifetime option for unlimited use. Credits never expire — most owners only reach for them in an emergency.
Is this just a chatbot like ChatGPT?
No. When you describe your pet's symptoms, PetVet247 searches a curated library of peer-reviewed veterinary research — papers from open-access clinical journals, reviewed and approved by hand — and finds the most clinically relevant evidence for your pet's exact symptoms. That research grounds every response, rather than relying on generic internet advice. Read more about the technology.
How does it assess photos and videos?
The AI looks at the image or video directly — assessing things like gum colour, wounds, and movement — and is built not to fabricate what it sees. For videos, individual frames are analysed so it can judge movement, gait, and signs of pain.
Can I see how it reached its conclusion?
Yes. Every assessment is logged with a full audit trail — which research was used, what the AI saw, and what it concluded. It's transparent by design.
Who built PetVet247?
PetVet247 was built by Neil Ellis, a practising Chief Information Security Officer with over 30 years in technology, who has personally led ISO 27001 information security certification and ISO 42001 AI governance compliance. The clinical content is reviewed by a student veterinary nurse in active clinical training, so every question the app asks is one that genuinely matters.
Do you sell or share my data? Do you train AI on it?
No. Your pet's data is never sold, never shared, and never used to train AI models. PetVet247 is built with enterprise-grade security from day one.
Are there any adverts or hidden interests?
No. PetVet247 has no advertising, no vet-practice partnerships, and no conflicts of interest. The only goal is to give you the most accurate guidance possible.
